Description

When Greg Foat first encountered Masin’s iconic ‘Wind’ album in 2016, he found himself in the midst of a humid Miami summer, serenading the sunset with its ethereal melodies. Originally released in 1986, the album gained renewed attention as tracks were sampled by the likes of Björk, Nujabes, and To Rococo Rot, sparking a resurgence of interest in Masin’s music after a decade-long hiatus.

Foat, deeply affected by ‘Wind,’ envisioned a collaboration with Masin, leading to remote recording sessions between 2021 and 2022. Utilizing a grand piano, vibraphone, and vintage synths to complement Masin’s electric piano improvisations and digital library sounds, the resulting album, ‘Dolphin,’ blends jazz-infused fusions with Masin’s sample-driven style. The synergy between Foat’s library music expertise and Masin’s tendencies creates an enticing tapestry, evoking the excitement of a crate digger’s dream.
